Osthi release confirmed for 8th December

It has been reported in the past few days in the press that Simbu’s upcoming film Osthi had run into serious trouble and won’t be releasing on 8th December as announced earlier. The reports worried Simbu’s large number of fans as they were wondering what would happen to the star’s much-awaited film. For the record, Osthi is the Tamil remake of the Bollywood super-hit film Dabangg.

It was reported that Sun Pictures, which had secured the satellite broadcasting rights of the film, owed more than Rs.2.00 crores to many theatre-owners who had made it absolutely clear that unless there are settled by Sun Pictures, they won’t take any step to release any film which is even remotely connected with Sun Pictures.

As such, a question mark hung over the release of the film. The issue has, however, met with a solution, if a joint statement released today by the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), Federation of Theatre Owners’ Associations and the theatre-owners of Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur District is any indication to go by.

In the statement, they have said that the film would be releasing on 8th December as scheduled earlier and that there is no ‘impediment’ that would hurt the film’s theatrical release. TFPC’s president S.A. Chandrasekaran and Theatre Owners’ Association’s vice-president Jayakumar are among those who have signed the joint statement.
