Hindu Makkal Katchi(HMK), the ‘self-styled’ custodian of Tamil culture and tradition to be ‘observed’ in Tamil films, is at it again. The organization has come out with its guns blaring and this time, the actor who is bearing the brunt of its attack is none other than our Karthi.

The incident happened almost six months ago when Karthi made a comment in the course of his speech at a film award function in Hyderabad. Apart from delivering back to back hits hero Karthi also enjoys a great fan following among his Telugu audience as well.

Karthi, who had attended a Maa TV award function in June was given a rousing welcome. When the actor was questioned by a press person, whether he preferred Telugu audiences or Tamil audiences, reportedly replied in fluent Telugu: “Undoubtedly, Telugu audiences. They enjoy each and every frame of my films here and cheer me with claps and whistles, which is missing among Tamil audiences.”

This has triggered HMK’s opposition. Having woken up rather late in the day, HMK has come out with a statement saying Karthi’s views is condemnable and is demanding an apology.

Says Kannan, Secretary-HMK, “Being born in Tamil Nadu and becoming popular through Tamil films, how can an actor talk so casually about Tamil audiences? When Karthi was asked the question whether he preferred Telugu audiences or Tamil audiences, he should have diplomatically said ‘both’. Why these double standards and degrading Tamils in other states?”

Kannan reveals that the outfit will be urging the actor to demand apology. “We will also be protesting in front of the house, We have sought police permission and are waiting for it”, he further added.

Meanwhile, HMK’s Udumalpet wing headed by Annadurai and Ramanan said they will tear Karthi’s pictures in the middle of the road.

Karthi who was shooting in Chalakudy for Suraj’s upcoming flick with Anushka, was surprised at the commotion.

“Tamil Nadu and Tamil audiences are like my parents. Will anyone talk ill about their parents? I am not the kind of person who would hurt anyone even in my wildest dreams. People who know me well are aware of this. So, I want to clarify that there was no intention of hurting anyone’s sentiments!”

Now, do you people think Karthi should apologize?
