DMK asks Centre to take right decision on Mullaperiyar
Taking a cautious approach on the Mullaperiyar dam row, DMK today (Dec 1) asked the Centre to take a right decision as the party does not want to create panic among people.
"We are soft pedalling the issue and do not want to create panic in the minds of people. Our leader has issued a statement today that solution must be found to this sensitive issue which will be mutually agreed upon and which will be beneficial to the people of both states," DMK MP T Siva told reporters here. Mullaperiyar dam is becoming a contentious issue with both Tamil Nadu and Kerala taking divergent views on it.
While Kerala wants to lower the water level and a new dam in Muallaperiyar fearing disaster, Tamil Nadu wants the water level in the dam to rise further. Siva said, "The Centre should take the right decision... the matter is before Supreme Court. Earlier also Supreme Court has given the direction that the dam is strong enough as I have repeatedly said that it can even hold much more water."
Making the DMK stand clear, he said "All parties in Tamil Nadu are united and there is no divergent view on it. We are waiting for the Supreme Court to give its decision and it has to be followed by both states. Tamil Nadu is fully cooperating and we want to approach the matter in a sane way."
