The heroine Vimala Raman who had donned the female lead role in the film Dam 999 has mentioned that she had acted in the film without knowing the history of Mullaperiyar Dam. The film Dam 999 is about the collapse of the Mullaperiyar Dam.

Vimala Raman is the heroine of this film. Now people of Tamil Nadu are forcing that Vimala Raman should be barred from acting in Tamil films because she has acted in that controversial film.

Vimala Raman while speaking about this said, “I am acting in a Telugu film now. I had been to Kulu Manali to participate in the shooting of this film. I am unaware of the protests of the film Dam 999 because the shooting of the Telugu film is taking place in a remote village. Some of my friends in Chennai have informed me regarding this through SMSs. I am a NRI. I hail from Australia.
K Balachandar introduced me through the Tamil film Poi. I am not aware of the history of Mullaperiyar Dam. I don’t have the intentions of hurting the feelings of the Tamilians. If at all I have hurt the feeling of the people of Tamil Nadu, I extend my heartfelt apologies.”
