Ameer appeals to CM to boycott Chennai International Film Festival

Known for speaking out his heart in almost all the matters, noted director-actor Ameer has shot off a letter to the chief minister Jayalalitha (see the Pic above) requesting her to stay away from the 9th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) which gets launched in the city today.

In his carefully-worded letter addressed to the chief minister (see the Pic), Ameer has said that he was award that the organizing committee had invited Amma to inaugurate the IFF which was scheduled to commence in the city today. “The organizing committee had purposely ignored quality films like the national award-winning film Tenmerku Paruvakkatru and the critically acclaimed Sengadal.

“It is indeed regrettable that the Committee decided to choose films based on their popularity among the public rather than the content and the script of the films. It is even more hurting that after getting the Rs.25 lakhs the State Government had given to organize the Festival, the Committee has chosen to ignore films which have won awards at the national and international level.

“I, therefore, would like to appeal to Amma not to align herself with a Film Festival which is held in a fully biased manner to satisfy the ego of a few individuals instead of promoting good cinema. I not only request Amma to boycott the Festival but would also like to appeal to the organizing committee not to commit such errors in future as and when they decide to arrange Film Festivals,” the letter concluded thus.
